So I’ve been pretty busy lately. Finished a 20 x 16 acrylic piece involving several animals and a landscape, can’t say anymore or show it off until it’s gone to its intended recipient as it’s a present. I’m now working on several portrait commissions as well as generally sketching. Its all pretty animal themed at the moment as that’s the stimulus that I’ve been getting most lately.
While out hill walking up in the Forest of Clunie, I was wandering along a dry stone wall and had a pleasant surprise when a weasel went running right under me and into a dark hole in the wall. It was magic, and if I’d blinked I would have missed it as it was lightning fast.
In the same area I’ve been helping survey Black Grouse. This involves getting up very early in the morning and trekking out into the cold hills, but the experience is worth it. You can hear them calling from quite a distance away, and when you spot them it’s quite compelling watching them compete.
The sun coming up over the hills and the sights and sound of various other animals make it enchanting too, particularly hearing the curlews and the black grouse together as the sun lights up the moor. It’s wonderfully peaceful. Here are a couple of clips to give you an idea of what it’s like:
Also locally the lambing season has begun, so there are lambs everywhere, looking very cute. I’ll have to get out and do some more sketching of them and the calves when the weather decides to play nice.
